Life Span Development In the book, Curious George rides a bike by H.A. Rey, George receives a new bike from his friend. His friend tells him to be careful with his new bike and to keep close to the house while he is gone. George does not listen to his friend and decides to go exploring away from the house. While exploring, George sees two boys playing with their toy boats and then decides that he wants to play with a toy boat. George made a plan (how to make the boat) and then he carried out the task. George made himself a boat out of newspaper. This is an example of stage two, 1-3 years, Erikson. In stage two, children express their growing self control by climbing, touching, exploring, and try to do things for themselves. (Dennis Coon) Though most children in stage two would be exploring their kitchen floor, or ceiling, not a river! I also read the story, Curious George gets a medal by H.A. Rey. In this story George makes a mess in his friends house. George is anxious to clean up the mess before his friend gets home. The reason that he is so eager to clean up the mess is because he is thinking about the possible consequences of his actions. If this were an actual little boy, he would be thinking, I don`t want to get punished, so I will clean up the mess. Or, Oh, No! I`m going to get into big trouble! This is an example of Stage 1 the preconventional level, Kohlberg. If his friend weren`t coming home would George work so vigorously to clean up the mess? I think not. In the second half of the book, George is asked to help a professor in a somewhat dangerous experiment. The professor that has asked this of him says, Of course everything will be forgiven if you are willing to go. (George got into a bit of trouble while he was there.) George agrees to this request because he wants to please others. George wants to be nice. Why would a child want to please others? It`s because they are trying to avoid disapproval. This is an example of Stage 3, the conventional level, Kohlberg. The last book that I read was Curious George by H.A. Rey. George is taken from his home in Africa, to a big ship. His friend tells him to run along and play but don`t get into any trouble. George promises to be good. George found some sea gulls on the deck, and saw that they could fly. He wanted to fly too. George tried to fly, and fell into the ocean instead. Obviously, George is not thinking logically. He does not realize that he can not fly. This is an example of the preoperational stage, 2-7 years. Piaget. I have another example of the preoperational stage not related to the book. My little sister, Zo, is 4 years old. My mother recently bought her a personalized song tape. In the beginning of the tape it asks her to yell out her name. She screams, Zo!!. Then it says Zo?! That`s a nice name! Throughout the tape her name is included in all of the songs. She thinks that the person talking can really here her! Now, getting back on track. After falling into the ocean George is rescued and once again promises that he will not get into any more trouble. Why would an actual child decide this if he/she were in the same situation? They would act this way because they would be thinking about their own needs. They wouldn't want to fall into the water again or be upset in any way. This is an example of stage two, the preconventional stage, pleasure-seeking orientation. In conclusion, I have found these stages to hold true, in my own personal life, and in children`s storybooks. It`s really great to finally understand why my little sister acts the way she does!

When Egeus describes it as being feign, and cunning, he is, for the most part, corredt. Love can sneak on a person, or a person can sneak up on it. I can back the former from personal experience. Love can be truly cunning, and when it is, it hurts. For example, Hermia and Lysander have to make plans to elope because otherwise they cannot be together because of her father, Theseus. Theseus wants her to marry Demetrius because Theseus likes him better. This makes the love that Lysander and Hermia have for each other hurt more than love already should, and then puts them in danger when they decide to elope. Thus, love can be a problem. One solution to this would be for Lysander to challenge Demetrius to a duel, as was a custom in Shakespeares days. If Lysander won, then he and Hermia would no longer have to worry about him, and they could be wed. In this however, there is a problem in the solution. Love is one of t hose things where there is no real Gray Area. Many people know if they are or if they arent. Its something that just comes. Often at the wrong times, like when it is not returned. Love can be a blessing, though, when it is returned, and can lead to many years of joy and prosperity, as long as the love is respected. Often times though, love is deceitful, and can stop on a dime. There is no solution for that.

Although this has been much discussed throughout society and opposing candidates of both parties have promised to close the loopholes by which such decisions are made, little actual traction has been made on this issue. Further, if any one of the three has most certainly lost power, it can be determined to be the Supreme Court. This supposedly supra-political entity has increasingly shown signs of operating at the behest of the executive branch and/or merely upholding policies or legislation of the Congress. Evidence of this can of course be seen with regards to the way in which the Supreme Court chosen to behave with relation to the Bush v. Gore crisis of 2000 and the decision to allow the continued suspension of habeas corpus with regards to the detainees housed at Guantanamo Bay (Alternman, 2000). Further, increased political pressures have kept the Supreme Court from ruling on warrantless wiretapping from the Patriot Act, clearly an unconstitutional practice, or the torture practices that certain branches of the military and intelligence community has been known to exercise over those whom it suspects of anti-American activities or sentiments. Whereas corporate interests nec essarily factor heavily into the decisions of governance, no more so can this be seen as with respect to the degree and extent to which the legislative branch has grown and evolved over time. Whereas several decades ago an individual of relatively meager means could run for Congress, the manner through which the system operates currently ensures that only those who are heavily funded, oftentimes by corporate or special interest groups, has any chance of actually attaining office (Bradley & Morrison, 2012). This has meant that the Congress does not serve as a primary mechanism for representing the will of the people; rather, it is oftentimes a mechanism through which back door deals, corporate cronyism, and other crooked practices are more and more likely to take place. Comparing both types of foods we can notice another difference. That is the health factor that affects our bodies. Another difference between these two types of food is the cost. Canned foods are much more expensive than the fresh foods. When he is pulled back, he may stay still for a little while, but a moment later, he will try to move away again.'; In his belief’s he believed that man needed to pull back and control our minds frequently, otherwise it will not remain still and it will wander away according to its emotions. The mind will follow whatever arises in it when there is nothing to discipline and tie it down. We must have mental training to stop its wandering. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã So meditation is the tool to tie up ones mind. It will cultivate mindfulness which is the foundation of the practice. Concentration stills the mind and reduces impulses and emotions. Its the same as tying the rope around a post and then tying the money to it. It does not matter how much the monkey struggles, he will have to stay within the limits of his bounds. As he is tied with the rope, he can only go back to the same spot again. The only chance for him to stop is when he is exhausted. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã When we fallow the movement of our mind, it is like watching the monkey. We do not have to become the animal, we just sit and watch him. Stay still, do not struggle like him. If we struggle like him, we will turn into a monkey and will become really exhausted. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã To practice Concentration is like looking at the monkey. In the process of watching, he will go round and round until the rope is so tight that he is bound up. In the end he will have to stop and sit still. The monkey also knows that it is time to stop when the rope is so tight that it strangles him. The movement of our mind is very similar, so if we keep on meditating in order to observe it (the mind), then it is like watching the monkeywithout behaving like the monkey. If we act like the monkey by creating thoughts, we will be exhausted by our meditation because the mind never stops. We have to be in control at the post where mindfulness and concentration are.

This paper will also discuss what the incentives will be for reporting abuse of other employees or violation of company policies and procedures. The steps that the company will take to keep all incentives for the different categories and employees fair and equal. What kind of payouts for the different performances in each category. The paper will also include a section on why the compensation is awarded and how they will reward the employee or group (Snell, 2010). How to set the program to handout the incentive and when they will be awarded and how. It will also discuss whether the incentive is given yearly or if it is given quarterly. Also in the paper it will discuss how to motivate employees and how to keep employees motivated. Knowing how to manage unfairness and employees who think it is unfair to offer an incentive for a particular performance or for an organization. Putting the steps in categories will also help out the unfairness. Also being discussed is how the compensation will be presented. What steps will be taken to ensure that all employees are eligible for the compensation program. Giving the steps out so the employee knows what is to be expected. Compensation and Security for Employees Some companies have different levels of employees; some include entry level employees to executives. Categorizing employees is a little difficult, especially if there is a lot of turn over. Some employees that have been in the company for more than a year may still be in an entry level position, but deserve to be at a junior level position. The main purpose for this program is to ensure a low employee turnover. These employees should be compensated not for their position but how they perform in that position (Snell, 2010). Other companies may give a bonus or compensation for getting hired into the company. Bonuses are given mainly in monetary fashion; they are given also if the employee is at the company for six months or more. Categorizing employees is a big job, but also can save on money. Categorizing employees from entry level to CEO is difficult especially if there are several levels. The first step is to categorize employees is to know how many employees are in each level. Also included in the first step is a description of what each employee level is. How many employees there are in each level and how they get the incentive in the level. Level 1: entry level- fifty employees, these employees are the ones that have recently been hired, or have been with the company for six months to a year. Frequent turnover accrues with in the first two months of hire (Snell, 2010). That is why an incentive is give after the six month in the position. Level 2: junior level- thirty employees, these are the employees that have been with the company for a year or more a monetary incentive is usually given after the employee has given their commitment to the company for a year and a half. Level 3: lead level- twenty employees, these employees are the leads in their units or departments, they have been promoted from the junior level and have worked for the company for more the 2 years. The first incentive is the promotions; they also get an incentive for job performances in the first six months after becoming a lead. Level 4: supervisor level- fifteen employees, these employees have also been leads that have been promoted (Ederhof, 2011). Supervisors have worked for the company for four years or more. The incentive for this level is after a year of being a supervisor. The supervisory level compensation will be based on job performance, and the supervisors past performances. Level 5: manager level- forty employees, these employees are either hired for the manager level or they have been promoted from the supervisor level. These employees are committed to the company. Their incentive is for job performance, going above and beyond the call of their position. Level 6: Coordinatorââ¬â¢s level-seventeen employees, these employees are listed as high as executives. These coordinators are budget coordinators, financial coordinators, company event coordinators. These employees are hired outside the company; they are hired for their skills of coordinating several departments. These employees know how to work through stress and deadlines. This level compensation is based solely on performance; there is still the six month compensation after hire. Compensation shows how they work through the stress and deadlines (Ederhof, 2011). Level 7: directorââ¬â¢s level-ten employees, these employees are also hired outside the company; they have the skills and experience to do their job. These employees are responsible for several departments and the employees that work in those departments. The directors are higher than the managers. This is where deciding how the compensation will work for the remaining levels will get a little more difficult. They also are goal oriented and will make goals for the departments they run (Reh, 2013). Level 8: Administration Assistantââ¬â¢s level: five employees, these employees are usually hired outside due to unfairness of the other employees. The employees have four to five yearsââ¬â¢ experience in the field. Administrative assistants work directly with the COââ¬â¢s and presidents. Their work is monitored above any employee in the company. Their stakes are higher when it comes to incentives and compensations. This is not an entry level position. Level 9: COââ¬â¢s level- twelve employees, these employees have specific areas of experience. Some of the COââ¬â¢s that would be in the company are: Chief executive officer (CEO) chief accounts officer (CAO), chief information officer (CIO), chief financial officer (CFO) to name a few. There is about eight to ten yearsââ¬â¢ experience in their field. Their goal is to keep things in their department running smoothly. Level 10: presidents level five employees; this level is the most difficult level to do incentives and compensations. They are the highest and most experienced in their areas. This level of employment makes all final decisions in the company. They work closely with directors in each department; knowing what is going on throughout the company is another objective that this level is kin on. Setting goals and expectations for the different levels is not as easy as it seems. The upper levels will have more difficult goals and expectations to achieve than the lower levels. This is the second step in the incentives and compensations plan. Anything that needs to be discussed about each level should be discussed with each level in a conference or a meeting (Super Jobs for You, 2009). Get the employees involved in their goals and expectations. Setting goals and expectations are very important, it keeps employees motivated and looking forward. Level 1: goals setting and expectations for the entry level positions. Sitting down with the level 1 employees the company found out that some of the goals are pretty similar. Having the employees set goals for themselves will help the employees achieve realistic goals and set short and long term goals (Goals and Expectations, 2011). Goals for entry level employees would include: to move up in the company, to have projects done on or before the deadline, being able to type 50 words per minute every day for a month. Bring job performance up to five percent in two weeks. Another goal would be win over customers that have not been in for a while. Achieving this goal would be for each level one employee. The goal would be to get back 3 customers within sixty days. Some personal goals for employees at level one is: being able to speak up in meetings, get along with co-workers better, to talk to their superiors a lot better without being terrified of being rejected. Level 2 employees have the same goals as the level one employee with some differences. Some goals that level two employees have set for themselves are as follows: wanting to move up in the company, get sales up to ten percent before the next quarter. The incentive for reaching the customer goal would be a hundred dollars and free lunch on the company for 3 employees of level one and three employees for level two. Some of the incentives for the level one employee, once they have achieved their goal, would be a promotion with a pay raise. For finishing a project before the deadline would be a fifty dollar bonus on their next check. Level two employees would be the same, a promotion and a pay raise. Once they achieve their goal of getting sales up the company will give incentive for the first three employees who reach the goal. The incentive will be a week vacation with pay. For level 3 employees the goal setting is a bit more complicated. Some goals could be: having their department reaches a team goal within thirty days. A team goal could be to increase communication through the entire department. Also getting employee feedback from the departments to reach the specific goal (Goals and Expectations, 2011). Giving out monthly progress reports to level one and two employees, telling the employees how they are doing and where they are to achieve their own personal and professional goals. Once the communication goal is reached by one department the entire department will get fifty dollars on their next paycheck and will get a free lunch to a great restaurant on the company. For the level three employees the incentives for reaching goals and expectations would be a weekââ¬â¢s paid vacation from the company for achieving the progress report goal for the first 4 employees. This goal is also available to the level four employees also. For level 4 employees they will also make up goals for themselves as well. Some of the goals would be figuring out how to relieve the stress from their employees to increase productivity and performance. How to keep employees from going home early or calling in sick from work on Fridays. Some suggestions would be giving the employees free massage on their breaks, giving a longer lunch hour on Fridays. Setting and posting team goals that are simple and are seen everywhere. Level 5 employees personal goals could be to get out on the floor to help out lower level employees about sixty percent of the day for the next sixty days. The department goal could be to develop a plan to keep more employees from quitting and to lower turnover by fifty percent. Whichever level achieves this goal will get a twenty-five percent raise. The levels that will be competing will be levels four, five and seven. Levels 6 employees will have goals and expectations to fulfill. Some goals and expectations could be to stay up-to-date on advertising until the end of the year. Plan a company event three times a year. The big goal is to talk to customers about what they want out of the company, or what they want to see the company change and make it happen within six months. Achieving this goal would get the coordinator responsible a thirty percent raise and 2 weeks paid vacation. For the entire company goals would be an award of their choosing for working in the company for five, ten, fifteen and twenty and so on years. The awards would be for five years a plaque that says for five years of service in the company and would have the employees name on it. The ten year anniversary would be an award of their choosing, like a stereo or two hundred dollars cash. Every year would have an award that is a little more expensive and elaborate. For reporting violations and abuse to co-workers the incentive would be the same hundred dollars for reporting sexual harassment, reporting a violation of the code of conduct would award the employee with a free membership to the gym of their choice or ten free massages for two. For referring new employees the employee would get fifty after the new employee was hired and hundred after the new employee was at the company for six months. Steps that the human resource management will take to ensure that all compensation and incentives are fair and equal to all levels. Step one is to figure out different higher goals for each employee at each level. Keep goals short-term. Let all employees at the lower level know they have the potential to achieve all goals and expectations. Also let them know they lso have the ability to be promoted wit in the company. Also letting all employees know that they are valued in the company. Giving out ââ¬Å"treatsâ⬠to all employees at the end of a really long work day or work week. Company parties, picnics or celebrations, to let the employees know they are valued in the company. Celebrating the employees birthdays, to let them know that the company remembers them and that they are special. Doppelganger and King Kong English Speech
Introduction: ââ¬Å"Good morning/afternoon class and *teacher*, today I will be speaking about how Michael Parker, the author of Doppelganger and Peter Jackson, the director of the film King Kong, accurately portray the main concept of the Beast Within through the symbolism of masks and the notions of betrayal and duplicity. I will be talking about Josh and Andrew from Doppelganger, Carl Denham and the people that he manipulated and affected through his deception, from King Kong and explain their contributions to the main idea of the Beast Within, how they wear a mask and how they portray the concepts of Duplicity and Betrayal. Body Paragraph 1: (Doppelganger) ââ¬Å"In Parkerââ¬â¢s novel, Doppelganger, a key character, Josh, shows that he has a cunning and devious side in the dystopic Sydney when he premeditatedly (purposefully) gives Andrew a Raksi that is spiked with the drug QZ45. Andrew drinks the Raksi without any knowledge of the ââ¬Ëadded ingredientââ¬â¢ and when he drinks it he realises that it tastes different to how it did previously, when he tried some with Josh in the bar.He noticed that Josh was acting in an expectant manner, as if he was waiting for something to explode on him, the simile in the text, ââ¬Å"It had a slightly different taste ââ¬â as if sand was added to it,â⬠is used by Parker to indicate that Andrew had a suspicion that something was wrong with the Raksi. Regardless of this, he trusted Josh enough to go on to have even another shot of the ââ¬Å"ethanolâ⬠smelling Raksi, with the foreboding sandy substance half dissolved into it.After this second shot, Andrew begins to feel something ââ¬Å"Jolting the neuronesâ⬠, and when Andrew finally finds out what Josh did, Josh very casually mentions that he ââ¬Å"Just added something to the Raksiâ⬠and smiles. Josh wears a metaphorical mask in this situation, because he has to act as if there is nothing wrong with the Raksi, he even talks nonchalantly ab out how the Hallboys will be ââ¬Å"yelling forâ⬠the QZ45, in an attempt to make it seem less suspicious to Andrew.Josh portrays the theme of betrayal because he literally betrays the trust of Andrew by spiking the drink, because Andrew at least had ââ¬Ësomeââ¬â¢ trust for Josh in the Dystopic Sydney. I will be talking about Josh and Andrew from Doppelganger, Carl Denham and the people that he manipulated and affected through his deception, from King Kong and explain their contributions to the main idea of the Beast Within, how they wear a mask and how they portray the concepts of Duplicity and Betrayal. Body Paragraph 1: (Doppelganger) ââ¬Å"In Parkerââ¬â¢s novel, Doppelganger, a key character, Josh, shows that he has a cunning and devious side in the dystopic Sydney when he premeditatedly (purposefully) gives Andrew a Raksi that is spiked with the drug QZ45. Andrew drinks the Raksi without any knowledge of the ââ¬Ëadded ingredientââ¬â¢ and when he drinks it he realises that it tastes different to how it did previously, when he tried some with Josh in the bar.He noticed that Josh was acting in an expectant manner, as if he was waiting for something to explode on him, the simile in the text, ââ¬Å"It had a slightly different taste ââ¬â as if sand was added to it,â⬠is used by Parker to indicate that Andrew had a suspicion that something was wrong with the Raksi. Regardless of this, he trusted Josh enough to go on to have even another shot of the ââ¬Å"ethanolâ⬠smelling Raksi, with the foreboding sandy substance half dissolved into it.After this second shot, Andrew begins to feel something ââ¬Å"Jolting the neuronesâ⬠, and when Andrew finally finds out what Josh did, Josh very casually mentions that he ââ¬Å"Just added something to the Raksiâ⬠and smiles. The False Promise of Gun Control essays After the class debate, Tougher Gun Control on November 12, 1999: I gained a new understanding of the opposing sides views on the issue. They had some very strong arguments, including some very weak points. I'll start with the stronger points and diminish to the weaker arguments throughout this paper. I do believe that if gun control laws get even tougher ( to the point of imprisonment ) than they are at this present time in society, our jails, prisons and correctional facilities will soon be overcrowded and we will have a sentencing problem with any issue that arises in the state that assigns the rules on gun control. There are too many conflicts and crossroads that develop when a stand against one issue will cause debates in another subject, such as sentencing of "gun abusers" and the overcrowding of prisons. The opposing side also mentioned how the "black market" (a name for an underground organization that is stolen, bought and sold, merchandise) would simply make firearms so much more expensive because they are now all illegal to citizens. Well, I don't think that if their were to be tougher gun control laws, all of the firearms in the United States of America would be banned, tougher gun control is simply the monitoring of guns, making sure they are not as easy to get in the stores as well as on the street. I believe the opposing side was thinking in terms of NO GUNS IN THE COUNTRY...EVER! And that's not at all what this issue is about. The other sides weakest argument, in my opinion was how they are now making guns with sensors that will only fire with the owners fingerprints. Even though this may be a breakthrough in technology for some, there will always be others to break the system. What makes the average citizen feel that the suspect cannot get replicas of a fingerprint with all of the technology their is in this world? This shows Eddies love for Katharine but he is becoming far too over protective over Katherine. Arthur Miller also creates tension through the use of short sharp sentences through the scene as well as the repetition of key phrases during the scene, eg) when Katherine says ââ¬Å"I think I canââ¬â¢t stay here no moreâ⬠when Eddie says ââ¬Å"You aint goinââ¬â¢ nowheresâ⬠after that Katherine says: ââ¬Å"Eddie Iââ¬â¢m not gonna be a baby anymoreâ⬠these are all extremely short sentences used within quick succession. The use of short sentences like this is to heighten the drama by showing the views that the characters are in an angry and aggressive as mood well as showing Katherineââ¬â¢s new fear of Eddie and that something is inevitably going to happen. Certain unexpected key events occur in this scene, which shock the audience and create a heightened dramatic impact. This is when Eddie ââ¬Å"reaches out suddenly, draws her to him, as she strives to free herself he kisses her on the mouthâ⬠then Rodolpho tells Eddie ââ¬Å"have respect for herâ⬠after that: ââ¬Å"Rodolpho flies at him in attack. Eddie pins his arms, laughing and suddenly kisses him. This shows that Eddieââ¬â¢s feelings for Katherine are so powerful that they are uncontrollable; this causes the audience to be shocked and lose respect for Eddie. As well as these happenings, emotions are revealed in this scene, which heightens the tension. This is shown best by Katherineââ¬â¢s fear of Eddie because she usually shows such admiration for Eddie. Eddie crying is also eddy showing emotion ââ¬Å"Eddie strands of tears rolling down his face as h laughs mockingly at Rodolpho. â⬠While Katherine ââ¬Å"is staring at him in horrorâ⬠Katherine and Rodolpho are also behaving ââ¬Å"out of characterâ⬠by showing disrespect towards Eddie. Katherine usually acts childish towards him as if Eddie really is her father; and Rodolpho is usually trying to avoid conflict with Eddie as well as trying to win Eddies approval over Katherine Craig young 11vk The mix of violence, humiliation and control in this scene all help to create dramatic impact. This is shown when Rodolpho is violent towards Eddie ââ¬Å"Rodolpho flies at him in attack. â⬠This shows the audience how Rodolpho has changed his attitude towards Eddie. Eddie shows control by forcibly kissing Katherine and then Rodolpho. Eddie does this to show his authority over Katherine and Rodolpho, and to degrade Rodolpho by showing that he has control over him. Further more proving that, Eddie is stronger than Rodolpho. In conclusion the contrast between the events with Eddie and Katherine and the mood of Alferiââ¬â¢s speech at the end of the scene, also creates a sense of tension; due to the contrast between the short sharp aggressive sentences earlier on in the scene then when Alferi speaks there becomes longer calmer sentences, this contrast creates a sense of tension by making the audience think that something more is going to happen. As well as this a part of Alferiââ¬â¢s speech makes the audience realise that something terrible was inevitably going to happen ââ¬Å"but I will never forget how dark the room came when he looked at me; his eyes were tunnels. I kept wanting to call the police, but nothing had happened. Nothing at all had really happened. â⬠This shows that Alferi had the feeling that something had already happened so it seems almost certain that something would happen.
